Daeodon is a large, omnivorous daemonohyid native to the Arctic Sector, or Borealia, of planet FMM UV-32. It is featured as a higher-tier huntable animal on the Far North Tour.
Biology[]
Colloquially known as the "hell pig" due to its light reddish skin and intimidating appearance, the alien Daeodon of FMM UV-32 is a large omnivore in possession of a gnarly set of teeth and incredibly-powerful jaws. Daeodon primarily feed on the cold-hardened plants of their environment, sometimes using their sharp canines to pull roots and tubers out of the ground. However, these beasts will not hesitate to feed on animal flesh when given the opportunity.
Carrion is a common source of food for the "hell pigs", and they make effective use of bone-splintering molars to effortlessly tear apart corpses - though they will also attempt to prey on live animals from time to time. Animals such as Dinornis, Amphicyon, Macrauchenia, and the occasional human hunter are all on the menu for this fearsome beast.
The Daeodon of the dinosaur planet is also well-known for its high aggression, being more prone to attack than many other animals on the Far North Tour. This short-tempered mammal has been known to charge at any perceived prey or foes from a distance, either barging into it head-on or completely missing its target. The beasts are also very territorial, preferring to keep large stretches of territory which they will regularly mark with their own urine or feces and defend from either rival Daeodon or other predators.
Among those other predators is the powerful, feathered Yutyrannus, one of the few dinosaurs native to Borealia. Daeodon have been observed getting into occasional squabbles with Yutyrannus over food, territory, or just general supremacy, with mixed results at best.
Though much of the time the tyrannosaurs manage to triumph over the "hell pigs" in these battles, there have been several reported cases in which the entelodonts were actually able to kill the aforementioned feathered dinosaurs - via targeting the vulnerable neck of their enemy and crushing it in their jaws.
While Daeodon are notorious for their hostile nature, they are not the most intelligent of animals. Sidestepping their attacks is relatively easy and their lack of maneuverability makes it difficult for them for make sharp turns. Nonetheless, these "hell pigs" are able to withstand severe punishment from firearms before going down, thanks to their leathery hides and a thick layer of blubber beneath their skin.
Said skin and blubber work in tandem to protect the beast from the frigid conditions of the Arctic Sector. With the onslaught of winter, however, these mammals must migrate south, as even their natural insulation can't protect them from the most severe blizzards brought about by winter's wrath.
