SUBJECT: Allosaurus
DESCRIPTION: Common carnivore, dangerous but easily spooked.
NOTES: Treat with care, and shoot before it gets too close.
- DHC Gametracker Survey
Allosaurus are carnivorous dinosaurs native to the East Central Sector of planet FMM UV-32. They are available for hunting on the Eastern Tour.
Biology[]
Allosaurus are an infamous species of dinosaur native to the warm islands and valleys of the eastern continent. Here they are common predators, feeding on the many small herbivores found in these diverse environments.
These dinosaurs are primitive predators, being related to some of FMM UV-32’s most ancient lineages. Allosaurus are unique among this sector’s dinosaurs for specializing in swallowing small prey with their unhinging jaws. A single Galimimus swallowed by these creatures can satisfy their hunger for days. Allosaurus primarily hunt their prey using their acute sense of smell, as their eyesight is lacking.
Allosaurus are often 5 to 7 meters, and may weigh up to a ton. Being small compared to other predators of the Dinosaur Planet, Allosaurus avoid encounters with other carnivores, and will sleep at night. Like many predators, these dinosaurs are drowsy at dawn, and are often found basking in the sunlight for warmth.
Among novice and expert hunters alike, these dinosaurs carry an infamous reputation. Their common distribution makes them likely yet surprising encounters for those unprepared to deal with a charging predator. Both inexperienced hunters and professionals caught off guard have met their fate by the jaws of an Allosaurus.
Luckily, these dinosaurs are fairly easy to take down. DHC advises hunters to aim for their head, neck, and spine to instantly incapacitate these creatures. However, because of their large populations and reputation, Allosaurus are regarded by many as a pest species, and are not considered valuable by most collectors.

Biology[]
Allosaurus are widespread throughout the Central Sector, and are considered some of the most common predators on the landmass. The dinosaurs are primitive, and genetic evidence shows they are a basal species. As such, the animals are not known for their intelligence, but the potential power they possess is not to be understated.
Being a common predator, Allosaurus is known to feed on animals that are lower on the food chain. Common prey items include Moschops, Dimetrodon, Pachycephalosaurus, and other creatures that inhabit similar niches. Their primary method of taking down prey are their jaws, which can be opened extremely wide to the point of nearly dislocating. The function of this is to aid in taking large chunks of flesh out while feeding or taking down prey. The arms can also aid in predation, as they are able to hold down struggling prey.
Though it is usually a solitary hunter, there are occasions where Allosaurus will travel in groups of two or three. In these situations, the dinosaurs may attempt to take down larger prey, but the disorganized nature of the packs makes this strategy inefficient. More commonly they will gang up on smaller but well defended prey, like Ankylosaurus, and use their numbers to overwhelm the animal. More recently, this tactic has been used to take down hunters with increasing efficiency.
Though Allosaurus are best known for their predatory nature, scavenging is also frequently documented among the dinosaurs. Their incredible sense of smell aids them in tracking down and finding carcasses, and they will fiercely compete with other dinosaurs in order to feed on them. Their expansive jaws help in quickly consuming carcasses, as they are able to swallow large chunks of flesh easily. The animals are also known for their poor hearing, and even nearby gunshots may fail to gain their attention.
Many dinosaurs are considered the most dangerous on FMM UV-32, from the sleek pack hunting Velociraptor to the sheer powerhouse that is Tyrannosaurus. But when going by body count alone, Allosaurus takes the prize by a longshot. Allosaurus is infamous for its frequent and deadly attacks on hunters, especially on those who are inexperienced or underestimate the danger of a low ranking carnivore.
Sanctuary Tour[]
20 years after the Cityscape Incident, the Allosaurus remained on the Sanctuary Tour's hunting roster. Outside of the main species, a smaller, blueish subspecies can occasionally be found roaming the sand dunes of The Pyramids of Shmu-Hadron. Although smaller and even outcompeted by it's larger relative and other carnivores such as Inostranzevia, this primitive Allosaurus is still just as dangerous to the hunter and won't hesitate to make itself a meal from an unlucky traveler.
